Coddington Cove Rubble Fill Preliminary Assessment
Mr. Steve Parker of Tetra Tech NUS Inc. provided an update on the efforts at the Coddington Cove Rubble Fill Area (CCRFA) . His presentation is provided as enclosure (2). The five-acre CCRFA is identified as a Study Area in the Federal Facilities Agreement. Soil and groundwater samples were collected. Test results indicated that arsenic in soil was present above the State criteria; low levels or trace levels of pesticides, PCBs, TPH, PAHs, and PCE were found. For groundwater, metals were noted but levels were low and did not exceed any thresholds for concern. Additional sampling in wetland area will be performed. A study area screening evaluation (SASE) will be completed that will compare test results to criteria. The SASE will identify if no further action is necessary or if an RI/FS (Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study) is required.

The entire project, including restoration (i.e. attainment of established vegetative cover), will be completed by the end of October. In total, approximately 11,000 cubic yards of soil will be removed. Trucks will enter through Gate 10, travel to CHI, and depart through Gate 1.
