RESTORATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
SEPTEMBER 15, 2004

TOUR

The NAVSTA Newport Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) gathered at the Officers' Club for their monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2004. The tour started at 5:30 p.m. and finished at 7:35 p.m. Fact sheets for each of the sites visited on the tour were provided to the group (see Enclosures).

The attendance list included RAB members - Manual Marques, Jr., David Brown, Claudette Weissinger, Emmet Turley, Michael Simmons, Thomas McGrath, Howard Porter, James Myers; EPA personnel - Kymberlee Keckler, Bart Hoskins, and Bryan Olson; Navy personnel - CRD Stoll, Curtis Frye, Greg Kohlweiss, and Cornelia Mueller, and Stephen Parker of TetraTech NUS, Inc.

The tour started at the Old Fire Fighting Training Area, where the mound removal project was viewed, and the SWOS Parking Lot. The Parking Lot is a new site, added to the FFA in 2003. A draft work plan for a Focused Site Investigation at the SWOS site has been prepared, and fieldwork will be conducted in Spring 2005. The RAB members also toured the Coddington Cove Rubble Fill Area (CCRFA), the LNG facility at Derecktor Shipyard, and the NUSC Disposal Area. Sampling has been completed at the CCRFA and a letter report is being prepared. For Derecktor Shipyard, a revised FS is scheduled for delivery for late fall. For the NUSC Disposal Site, the Draft Final SASE Report has recently been prepared, and Background field sampling will be performed in the late fall. Also for the NUSC Disposal Site, a removal action is being planned for award (end of FY04 or beginning of FY05) to remove 3 drums and multiple small paint cans discovered during the SASE fieldwork.
